Monti, a town in the Monte Acuto historical territory with a population of , is known for its vineyards producing vermentino , the only Sardinian wine to have since the Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin, the highest recognition earned by a local wine. In August, a festival is held to celebrate this prized white wine with a subtle but intense aroma that pairs to perfection with fish dishes. Speaking of cuisine, the sa suppa , a day-old spianata flatbread seasoned with cow-milk cheese and grated sheep milk cheese, and drowned in mutton broth, is a local pride and joy. In addition to food and wine, the territory boasts architectural, natural and archaeological attractions. The bell tower of the 17 th century Parish of San Gavino is of particular note. South of the town, extends the Forest of Monte Olia , a natural park of holly and common oaks, strawberry trees and heath sheltering an oasis for wildlife repopulation: roe and red deer, mouflon and rare birds of prey, such as falcons and buzzards. Along the way, you will pass by the Church of San Paolo Eremita. Although consecrated in as recorded in parish records , its current architectural structure of natural stone dates to the 17 th century.

Here, a thick cloak of clouds provides perpetual humidity and makes an ideal habitat for epiphytic plants such as bromeliads. This varied and fascinating world is home of the Cock of the Rock, the Spectacled Bear, Orchids, Tree Ferns one of the oldest living plants , mosses and lichens. Overnight in our open air lodge "San Pedro". After 30 minutes bus ride we will arrive to the Port of Atalaya, board our covered motorized boat and head down the Alto Madre de Dios River for approximately 30 minutes toward our private reserve "Erika Lodge" where we will spend the next two nights. Short walk around the lodge. Immediately after breakfast, we start walking and our guide will explain us about insects, medicinal plants, trees, reptiles, mammals, etc. Before returning for lunch we can have the chance to swim in the clear water of natural pools of a stream close to the lodge. Early in the afternoon we will have a short boat ride to visit a small lake near the Alto Madre de Dios River.
On our trip towards the Northeast, we pass by small Andean villages while we watch groups of llamas and alpacas shepherds in their colorful dresses. We visit the colonial town of Paucartambo, gateway to the Jungle since pre-Inca times. We arrive at the Acjanaco Andean pass, southern boundary of the Manu Park in the high plateau of the Andes , we enter this very special habitat trekking on a moss and lichen carpeted land. This four-hour tour will take us through the high plateau, dwarf forests and cloud forest. Important: If you choose to walk, you will not be able to participate in the other activity herewith described. Mountain Biking This is the option to descend with very little effort the most scenic and beautiful part of the single-lane dirt road into the cloud forest. Not included in the price. Upon arrival to Manu Cloud Forest Lodge, we will enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the terrace. Here we can watch the national bird of the Peru spreading its brilliant red plumage, in the daily court dance to females of this species.
