Learn to dance Theatre Craft
Well our Berry Babes never fail to impress us and make us silly with pride. Our Sheffield dance school had 10 pupils nominated to perform at the IDTA Theatre Dance Awards in Manchester last weekend for their storming performances in their grade exams. To be invited to dance at this prestigious event is an achievement in itself, and we were thrilled to have the following pupils be nominated for these grades:. Our pupils worked very hard and danced their socks off, with Liberty and Eve making it to be Modern Jazz Grades finalists and Jack taking his place in the Theatre Craft Grades finals. However, the icing on the cake for a fabulous weekend has got to be our very own Jack Skelton , who stormed to victory in the Tap Grades category! This is an absolutely huge achievement and very well deserved. We are immensely proud of all our pupils who represented the school and we congratulate them on a successful weekend. If you are a new starter with us, there is no rush to buy leotards or dance shoes.
Modern Jazz and Theatre Craft
The style of class can be compared to contemporary dance with a strong technical feel to it with varying rhythms and styles for fun musical interpretation. Progression through the grades creates strong dancers building muscle and agility. Grades start from Preparatory through to grade 5 before the start of the vocational grades. Gaining fundamental knowledge of the syllabus is extremely beneficial before progressing through the grades. Ballet and stretch classes are recommended alongside modern jazz to enhance the dancers technique and flexibility. In class we explore the contrast between expansion and relaxation, isolated movements, travelling and floor work. Pupils will discover how to maximize the use of their body through the floor and air while showing control and balance. This is the performance based show style dance class that everyone loves. Created to develop the dancer into a versatile all round show performer. Covering a vast range of themes through the grades from panto to cabaret.
Tap dance is one of the core theatre subjects with origins that are many and varied. The Americans claim its origins are in African Jazz, the Irish claim it's from jigs and step dancing, the English from Clog dancing. Tap has been extremely popular ever since it began. Musical Classics such as 42nd Street and Crazy for You and more modern pieces such as Stomp and Tap Dogs highlight the many different styles of tap. The school trains pupils using the IDTA syllabus and pupils can enjoy a wide range of training throughout their classes at DC Dance working towards shows, festivals, fundraising events or simply just for fun.
